Union Water Resources Minister CR Paatil on Sunday inaugurated Gujarat’s first semiconductor manufacturing plant in Palsana, Surat. The state-of-the-art facility, established by Suchi Semicon, spans 30,000 sq ft and boasts a production capacity of 3 lakh chips per day. Built with an investment of ₹840 crore, the plant is set to strengthen India’s position in the global electronics supply chain.
Highlighting the significance of the milestone, Paatil emphasized the crucial role of semiconductors in the digital revolution. “Entrepreneurs in Gujarat are stepping up to manufacture advanced products and supply semiconductors not just to India but globally,” he said. Paatil also commended the rapid execution of the project, noting that Suchi Semicon made the plant operational in a remarkably short timeframe post-COVID.
Congratulating Suchi Semicon founder Ashok Mehta, Paatil shared the inspiring story of Mehta’s journey, from earning ₹1,500 in his first job to employing 1,500 skilled electronic engineers at his plant today. He lauded the company’s commitment to fostering local talent and innovation.
Minister of State for Home and Industries, Harsh Sanghvi, also spoke at the event, underlining Gujarat’s leadership in industrial development. “The vision of PM Modi for a self-reliant India in the semiconductor sector is being realized by Gujarat and its entrepreneurs. Suchi Group has demonstrated this with their groundbreaking initiative,” Sanghvi said.
Ashok Mehta revealed that the plant is the result of two years of extensive research and global exploration, visiting 12 countries before completing the facility in just a year. His son, Shetal Mehta, added that the plant will manufacture chips meeting global standards while creating 1,200 additional jobs over the next five years, further boosting the local economy.
