Regulatory Action: Ahmedabad RTO Suspends Rapido, Warns Uber
Share

Starting January 1, Ahmedabad implemented a law mandating auto-rickshaws to display meters. In response to multiple complaints from rickshaw drivers, the RTO has suspended Rapido for 30 days for violating regulations and issued Uber a 15-day deadline to cease using non-transport two-wheelers.

The Ahmedabad Rickshaw Association highlighted concerns about private aggregators using vehicles with white number plates and operating beyond their licensed permissions. Rapido, licensed only for three-wheeler rickshaws, was found using non-transport two-wheelers and operating with expired documents, risking passenger safety.
Similarly, Uber, licensed for three- and four-wheelers, was also found violating rules by using two-wheelers for transport services. The RTO has demanded that Uber provide assurance of compliance within 15 days or face further action.
This enforcement underscores the RTO’s commitment to ensuring regulatory compliance and passenger safety in Ahmedabad’s transportation sector.
