Expressing gratitude for this recognition, Arjun Aggarwal, co-founder of Geek Pictures, stated, “This screening is not just a showcase of a film but a celebration of our rich heritage and the timeless story of the Ramayana, which continues to inspire and guide us.”
The film, directed by Yugo Sako, Ram Mohan, and Koichi Sasaki, was originally released in 1993 but did not receive a theatrical release in India. However, it gained widespread popularity through television broadcasts in the early 2000s. Featuring voice performances by Arun Govil (Ram), Namrata Sawhney (Sita), and the late Amrish Puri (Raavan), the film remains a beloved adaptation of the epic.
Re-released in 4K format on January 24, 2024, the film was initially planned for an October 18, 2024 release but was rescheduled to ensure wider accessibility in Indian cinemas. Renowned screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad has overseen the creative adaptation of the new versions.
The special parliamentary screening marks an important milestone in the film’s journey, reaffirming the Ramayana’s enduring legacy and its deep cultural resonance in India and beyond.
