Uttar Pradesh has achieved a remarkable milestone by enrolling more than 1.14 lakh underprivileged children into private schools for the 2024–25 academic session through the Right to Education (RTE) Act. This marks a significant increase from previous years, reflecting the state’s commitment to providing quality education to children from economically weaker sections (EWS) and disadvantaged groups.

Under the RTE Act, 25% of seats in private unaided schools are reserved for children from EWS and disadvantaged backgrounds. The Uttar Pradesh government has facilitated this initiative by reimbursing schools for the fees of these students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their access to education. In the past two financial years, the state has disbursed ₹436 crore towards fee reimbursements, supporting over 5 lakh children currently studying in private schools under this scheme.
The enrollment process has been streamlined through a digital portal developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), enhancing transparency and efficiency. The government has also implemented awareness campaigns and established help desks to assist parents in the application process, particularly in rural areas. These efforts have contributed to a substantial increase in applications and successful enrollments across the state.
Districts like Basti have emerged as leaders in this initiative, achieving a 93% admission rate under the RTE Act. Other districts, including Hardoi, Etah, Balrampur, and Budaun, have also reported high enrollment figures, demonstrating the widespread impact of the program.
The Uttar Pradesh government’s proactive approach to implementing the RTE Act underscores its dedication to fostering educational inclusivity and empowering underprivileged children through access to quality education.
