Operation Sindoor: India’s Coordinated Military Strike on Pakistan’s Terror Bases

Share

On May 6, 2025, India launched “Operation Sindoor,” a coordinated military strike involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force, targeting nine sites in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and Punjab. The operation is a response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in 26 fatalities.

Indian officials assert that the strikes were aimed at terrorist infrastructure linked to groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, and were conducted without targeting civilian or military installations. The operation is notable for its comprehensive approach, involving all three branches of the Indian military, a first since the 1971 war.

Pakistan has condemned the strikes as an act of aggression and claims to have shot down five Indian aircraft in response. The situation has led to heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations, with both sides exchanging artillery fire along the Line of Control. International leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, have expressed concern over the escalating conflict and have called for de-escalation.

The conflict underscores the longstanding and volatile dispute over the Kashmir region, with both India and Pakistan claiming sovereignty. The use of nuclear-capable forces and the involvement of multiple military branches in the recent strikes have raised fears of a broader and more devastating conflict.
