On July 28, 2025, Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu & Kashmir Police launched a special operation named Operation Mahadev in the forests near Dachigam National Park, close to Srinagar. In this mission, they killed three terrorists who were hiding in the area.

According to sources, one of the killed terrorists is Hashim Musa, also known as Musa Fauji, who is believed to be the main planner of the Pahalgam terror attack that happened in April 2025. In that attack, 26 civilians lost their lives. The other two terrorists are believed to be Yasir and Abu Hamza, both foreign nationals.

The army recovered a large number of weapons, including AK-47 rifles, an M4 carbine, and 17 grenades from the encounter site.

This operation was planned after intelligence agencies picked up suspicious satellite phone signals and received information from locals in the area. The army had been tracking the terrorists for nearly two weeks.

Drone footage later confirmed that the terrorists were killed. The identities are being verified officially, but early reports say they are the same men behind the Pahalgam attack.

The government has called this a major success. Families of the victims have demanded that those killed in the Pahalgam attack be declared martyrs and their families be supported by the state.

This encounter is being seen as an important step in India’s fight against terrorism and a way to send a strong message to terror groups operating from across the border. The operation also highlights the role of accurate intelligence and local support in stopping such threats.
