NCERT Announces Price Reductions, New Textbooks for Classes 9-12 by 2026

Share

NCERT has undertaken a major revision of school textbooks as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 implementation, marking the fourth update since 2014. Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani explained that the process, overseen by experts in pedagogy and subject matter, addresses outdated topics and ensures a more streamlined and relevant curriculum. The revisions also aim to minimize the academic burden on students and avoid content duplication, a measure prompted by challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Notable changes include the use of ‘Bharat’ alongside ‘India’ in textbooks, aligning with constitutional terminology, and the introduction of “classical history” in place of “ancient history.” The revisions also remove sections on political events such as the Babri Masjid demolition and the BJP’s rath yatra. Additionally, content on Mughal emperors has been streamlined, and the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) has been integrated into various subjects. These updates reflect a shift towards a more inclusive and relevant educational framework.
