Kanika’s educational journey includes a BSc in Zoology from Delhi and a postgraduate degree in Environmental Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), where she also commenced a PhD. She began her IFS preparation in 2021, initially studying in Delhi and later continuing from her hometown using digital resources. Without attending formal coaching classes, Kanika utilized online tools, YouTube, and selective paid courses for targeted preparation.
Her parents played a pivotal role in her success. Her father, a retired district judge and current president of the consumer forum in Koderma, and her homemaker mother provided unwavering support, ensuring a conducive study environment.
Kanika encourages aspirants, especially from smaller towns, to utilize online resources and believe in their journey rather than investing heavily in coaching or relocating to bigger cities.
The UPSC announced the IFS 2024 results on May 20, 2025, with Kanika leading the list of 143 selected candidates.
