Job Overview:
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Editorial Interns to join our team for a children’s newspaper and magazine. This internship offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in children’s publishing and media. The ideal candidates will be passionate about children’s literature and media, possess strong writing and editing skills, and be eager to learn and contribute to the editorial process. The interns will assist in various editorial tasks, from content creation to proofreading, ensuring that our publications are engaging, educational, and entertaining for children aged 6-12.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Creation and Development:
- Assist in brainstorming and developing ideas for articles, stories, puzzles, games, and educational features.
- Write and contribute content that is age-appropriate, engaging, and educational.
- Collaborate with writers, illustrators, and designers to produce high-quality content.
Editing and Proofreading:
- Support the editorial team in editing and proofreading articles for clarity, grammar, and age-appropriateness.
- Ensure all content is fact-checked and accurate.
- Help maintain consistency and quality across all editorial content.
Research:
- Conduct research to support content development and ensure the accuracy of information.
- Stay updated with trends in children’s media, literature, and education.
Reader Engagement:
- Assist in developing interactive features such as reader submissions, contests, and polls.
- Help monitor reader feedback and suggest improvements to content based on audience response.
Administrative Support:
- Assist with organizing and archiving editorial materials and resources.
- Help maintain the editorial calendar and manage production schedules.
- Support the editorial team with various administrative tasks as needed.
Special Projects:
- Participate in special editorial projects and initiatives, such as themed issues or collaborative content.
- Assist in organizing and promoting events and activities related to the publication.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor’s program in Journalism, Communications, English, Education, or a related field.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Understanding of child development and age-appropriate content.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Creative mindset with a passion for storytelling and children’s media.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and digital publishing tools is a plus.
- An advantage is a basic knowledge of design software such as Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
