India Successfully Tests Indigenous Extended Range Anti-Submarine Rocket

India has achieved a major milestone in its defense sector with the successful test-firing of the Extended Range Anti-Submarine Rocket (ERASR). Developed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) of DRDO, the indigenous rocket was test-fired from the east coast, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s anti-submarine warfare capability.

The ERASR is designed to target enemy submarines at longer distances and can be launched from warships. It has a range of over 8 kilometers, significantly greater than traditional anti-submarine rockets. This advanced system will help the Indian Navy detect and neutralize underwater threats more effectively, particularly in deep-sea warfare conditions.

The rocket system is equipped with a high explosive warhead and features an advanced safety mechanism. It uses a dual-mode operation—unguided during flight and precision impact upon reaching the target zone. Its development is part of India’s ongoing mission to enhance indigenous defense production under the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.

Defense officials and experts praised the achievement, stating that it marks another stride toward reducing dependence on imported defense equipment. The successful trial proves India’s growing capability in designing and manufacturing world-class naval weapons.

This test also aligns with India’s broader maritime strategy of strengthening its presence in the Indo-Pacific region and securing vital sea lanes.

With ERASR entering advanced stages of testing, it is expected to be inducted into the Indian Navy soon, further empowering its warships to counter underwater threats with greater accuracy and range.
