The Gujarat Police is set to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ensure better crowd control and safety during the upcoming 147th Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad, scheduled for June 27, 2025. Over 25 lakh people are expected to attend the annual religious procession, which covers a 16-kilometer route and features 18 elephants, 100 trucks, 30 akharas, and multiple tableaux.
To manage such a large turnout, the police will use AI-based software that can estimate crowd size in real-time. This technology will assist in making quicker decisions and preventing overcrowding at sensitive points. It will also help monitor crowd flow and alert authorities in case of any unusual movement or gathering.
Special teams have been formed to coordinate surveillance using drones and CCTV cameras. This AI-backed initiative is being introduced to improve overall safety and ensure smooth procession management without disruption.
Officials say this is a proactive step toward modern policing and public safety during mass gatherings. With this, Gujarat becomes one of the few Indian states to integrate AI into religious event security planning. The move highlights the growing use of smart technology in law enforcement and public administration.
