Share

The Gujarat government has approved the establishment of 90 new government schools, marking a significant step toward enhancing educational access across the state. This comprises 85 secondary schools and five higher secondary schools, distributed with 70 in non-tribal areas and 15 in tribal regions—highlighting a commitment to balanced regional development.

Notably, the five higher secondary schools will span different districts: Vadia (Amreli), Vadgam (Banaskantha), Olpad (Surat), Gedi (Kutch), and Dablara (Dahod). Among these, three schools will offer science streams, while two are reserved for general education.

To support the new establishments, the state plans to recruit a total of 350 staff members—including teaching assistants, administrative personnel, and support staff (peons). The government has sanctioned ₹13.45 crore for this recruitment drive, with a breakdown of roles across non-tribal and tribal zones: 140 teaching assistants, 70 administrative assistants, and 70 peons for non-tribal areas; and 30 teaching assistants, 15 administrative assistants, and 15 peons for tribal regions.

This development is being integrated into broader education reforms, such as the ongoing Mission Schools of Excellence, which has already delivered 1.09 lakh smart classrooms, 21,000 computer labs, and 5,000 STEM labs, impacting approximately one crore students across Gujarat. The state’s 2025–26 budget further underlines this priority, allocating ₹59,999 crore to education and planning the recruitment of about 22,000 teachers, along with infrastructure upgrades under the Mission Schools of Excellence initiative.

These fresh investments are shaping a fundamental shift in Gujarat’s educational landscape—addressing gaps in access, strengthening infrastructure, and boosting human resources to ensure more equitable, quality learning environments across diverse communities.
