A team of scientists in India has found the fossil of a gigantic snake that lived millions of years ago. Named Vasuki indicus, this snake was one of the biggest ever discovered, measuring about 50 feet long—almost as long as a school bus!

The fossil was found by researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. They uncovered 27 fossilized bones from its backbone, which helped them understand its massive size. Unlike today’s snakes, which mostly stay hidden, this giant probably ruled its prehistoric world.
Scientists believe Vasuki indicus did not chase its food but waited and ambushed its prey, similar to how modern pythons hunt. It likely squeezed its victims to catch them.
The discovery of this ancient snake helps scientists learn more about Earth’s past and how giant reptiles lived. India’s rich history of fossils gives clues about creatures that once roamed the planet. Scientists say there are still many secrets to uncover beneath the ground, and each discovery helps us understand more about our planet’s ancient history!
