China reopens Mount Everest access to foreigners

Share

After a break due to the pandemic, China has reopened access to Mount Everest for foreign climbers via Tibet. For the first time, adventurers can embark on the journey to conquer the world’s tallest peak from the north. Seasoned mountaineer Adrian Ballinger, renowned for summiting Everest eight times, advocates for the Tibet route over Nepal’s southern route. This year, Ballinger will lead a group of climbers through his company, Alpenglow Expeditions. Notably, all permits for the Chinese route, known locally as Qomolangma, are now managed by the China Tibet Mountaineering Association (CTMA), underscoring Tibet’s important role in facilitating access to this iconic mountain.
