Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav have been named in India’s provisional 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy, starting February 19. Both players were under an injury cloud but have shown progress in recovery. Kuldeep, sidelined since November due to hernia surgery, has been building his fitness at the National Cricket Academy, while Bumrah is recovering from a stress-related injury. Harshit Rana has been added as a back-up for Bumrah for the preceding ODI series against England, as his readiness for the first two games remains uncertain.
Rohit Sharma will lead the squad, with Shubman Gill as vice-captain. The team includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, who earned his maiden ODI call-up and is likely to serve as a reserve opener. The middle order remains consistent with Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul, supported by all-rounders Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar. Mohammed Shami also makes his return after an impressive ODI World Cup campaign and recent inclusion in the T20I squad.
The squad features four specialist bowlers, with Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul as wicketkeeping options. Notably, Sanju Samson missed out after skipping the Vijay Hazare Trophy. India’s Champions Trophy campaign aims to build on their World Cup momentum, starting with a challenging series against England in early February.
