Bomb Threats on Mumbai–Ahmedabad Flight & CSMIA Escalate; Police Launch Probe

On July 16, 2025, the office of the Navi Mumbai joint commissioner of police received two threatening calls between 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm. The first warned of a bomb aboard the Mumbai–Ahmedabad flight, while the second threatened to blow up CSMIA at 6:30 pm.
In response, law enforcement immediately closed off the international terminal at CSMIA and conducted comprehensive checks on the aircraft and throughout the airport. No suspicious items were discovered, suggesting the threats were hoaxes.
Following standard procedure, an FIR was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing public alarm and disturbing peace. Authorities traced the mobile numbers used to make the calls; the investigation into their origins is ongoing. No arrests have been made yet.
Reports highlight that such false bomb threats have become more common nationwide in recent weeks, affecting flights, schools, hospitals, and public venues. Earlier in July, several Mumbai schools and hospitals also reported similar emails, often traced back to encrypted networks or VPNs.
The repeated occurrence of bogus threats is raising concerns. Police are urging heightened vigilance, improved screening, and swift tracing of such communications. They are also working closely with aviation security agencies to prevent future disruptions and ensure that any call posing a potential real threat is handled with full precaution.
In simple terms, multiple hoax calls on July 16 claiming bombs on a Mumbai–Ahmedabad flight and at the airport led to a major security response. Thankfully, no devices were found. The incident sparked an FIR and a probe, with mobile tracking already in motion. The trend of false alarms continues across India, pressuring authorities to stay alert and strengthen preventive measures.
