Bitten 200 Times, But a Hero to All!

Tim Friede, a man from the United States, did something truly brave — and a bit scary. He allowed himself to be bitten by deadly snakes over 200 times to help create a special medicine called a universal antivenom.

Why would he do such a thing? Tim wanted to help save people and animals who get bitten by venomous snakes, especially in countries where antivenom is hard to find. Normal antivenoms only work for specific types of snakes, but a universal antivenom could treat bites from many different kinds — possibly up to 16 species!
Over the years, Tim injected himself with small amounts of snake venom to build resistance. His body slowly developed antibodies — special proteins that fight venom. Scientists then studied his blood to help develop this life-saving medicine.
Thanks to his painful journey, researchers are now closer to making a single antivenom that could work around the world.
Tim’s story teaches us that bravery isn’t just in battles — it’s in caring for others, even when it hurts.
