Yuva Model Assembly: A Historic Event at Gujarat Vidhan Sabha
On 21st July 2022, the Gujarat Vidhan Sabha in Gandhinagar witnessed a landmark event—the Yuva Model Assembly—a historic initiative for the nation.
This event has never been organized in any of the state assembly across the country.
Concept and Execution
The success of this unique platform was due to the proactive support of Dr. Nimaben Acharya, Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. Designed to empower and educate youth about legislative processes, the program garnered overwhelming participation. Over 3,500 schools across Gujarat were engaged in the selection of 182 youth MLAs, replicating the state’s actual legislative structure. The candidates underwent a rigorous selection process to ensure inclusivity and merit.
Inauguration Ceremony
The event commenced with the presence of Gujarat’s esteemed leaders:
- Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel,
- Speaker of Vidhan Sabha Dr. Nimaben Acharya,
- Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports, and Cultural Activities Harsh Sanghvi,
- Other state ministers and dignitaries, including the Leader of the Opposition.
Agenda and Discussions
The Yuva Model Assembly simulated real-world legislative proceedings, focusing on critical socio-economic and environmental issues. Key agenda items included:
- Legislative Assembly Questions (LAQ).
- Budget Discussions:
- Budget 1: Agriculture.
- Budget 2: Health.
- Debate on a Bill: Related to the Sports Ministry.
- Resolution Proposals: Focused on Climate Change, Environment, and Education.
This initiative not only provided a learning platform but also inspired the youth to actively engage in governance and policymaking. By fostering debate on pressing issues, the Yuva Model Assembly set a precedent for how young minds can contribute meaningfully to the nation’s future.
