Vineet Joshi Appointed as Secretary of Higher Education

Shri Vineet Joshi has taken charge as Secretary of the Department of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education. He assumed office today at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi. With a distinguished career in the Indian educational sector, Shri Joshi brings a wealth of experience to this role.

Prior to this appointment, Shri Joshi served as the Chief Secretary of Manipur. He has also held prominent positions in the education sector, including Director-General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Education.

Shri Joshi has made significant contributions to India’s education system. He led key initiatives to enhance educational testing systems, restructure the education ecosystem, and improve the credibility of institutions like NTA and CBSE. He also played a vital role in the development of higher education funding mechanisms and Institutions of Eminence (IoEs).

A graduate in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Shri Joshi brings strong academic credentials to his new role.

As Secretary of Higher Education, Shri Joshi is expected to focus on improving access, quality, and innovation in India’s higher education sector. He is likely to prioritize the growth of Institutes of Eminence, international collaborations, and innovative policies to advance higher education in the country.
