Often children have friendship problems. They simply don’t know how to make friends in school and often they don’t know how to keep friends. There is nothing more heart breaking than having a child who has no friends. They feel lonely and isolated and this can affect their self-esteem and confidence for the rest of their lives. If they don’t know how to talk to friends…then they won’t be able to maintain friendships and it won’t matter how many times you set up play dates, change schools etc.If your child needs some guidance on how to keep friends, share the following tips with them, they will really help…
- If you make a promise, keep it!
- Be honest.
- Be forgiving, everyone makes mistakes.
- Talk to your friends if there is a problem.
- Don’t let little or annoying things build up into major problems.
- Be there for your friends, sometimes you have to do what they want to do.
- Don’t be bossy!
- Be kind, caring and helpful.
Most of our communication is through our body, facial movements and gestures. Show the speaker that you care and are interested in them. Teach your child these skills on how to be a good listener and watch their relationships thrive. You can help them by modelling this skill and giving them guidance when you see them doing the wrong thing (not in front of their friends).Once your child learns how to talk to friends, they will make more friends and become more popular.
