Shakib Al Hasan Handed Bowling Ban in International Cricket Following ECB Decision

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in all international and domestic competitions governed by ICC-affiliated boards, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on December 15. The suspension follows a prior ban by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) after Shakib’s bowling action was deemed illegal during an independent assessment at Loughborough University, an ICC-accredited testing centre.

Shakib’s action was reported during a county cricket match in September 2023, leading to his reassessment earlier this month. Under ICC regulations, any suspension imposed by a national board automatically extends to international cricket and other domestic leagues.

The BCB confirmed that Shakib will undergo reassessment at an ICC-accredited centre to rectify his action. Until then, he remains barred from bowling but can continue to play as a batter. This suspension is a major blow to both Shakib and Bangladesh, as his all-round abilities are central to the team’s success.
