Scientists at the University of Cambridge have created a computer that is completely powered by algae, a new study published in the journal Energy & Environmental Science revealed.Researchers believe the system “has potential as a reliable and renewable way to power small devices”.They said the system was made of “common, inexpensive and largely recyclable materials”.The little bio-based battery-alternative could serve as a way to power small electronics without rare earth elements and lithium, materials in short supply and under growing demand, according to the study researchers. The system could also help bridge the electricity divide, providing another power supply for people in rural areas or low income countries.
