The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has made the registration of pet dogs mandatory starting January 1, 2025. This initiative aligns with the National Action Plan for Dog Mediated Rabies Elimination from India (NAPRE).
Pet owners will have 90 days to register their dogs through the official AMC website at [ahmedabadcity.gov.in](http://ahmedabadcity.gov.in). Ahmedabad will become the first city in the state to implement a fully online registration process. The registration process requires pet owners to pay a nominal fee of Rs 200 per dog.
An AMC official stated, “The city has approximately 50,000 to 55,000 pet dogs. While Ahmedabad has not reported a single case of rabies in the last five years, the authorities are committed to maintaining the city’s rabies-free status through this registration initiative.”
This step is expected to help the authorities monitor pet dog populations, ensure timely vaccinations, and promote responsible pet ownership across the city.
