Indian Americans make history, win

Indian Americans have made history by securing six seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Suhas Subramanyam, a lawyer from Virginia, became the first Indian American elected from the state and the East Coast. Previously a Virginia State Senator and former White House Advisor to President Barack Obama, Subramanyam joins the “Samosa Caucus” of Indian American lawmakers in Congress.

The existing members of this group—Ami Bera, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ro Khanna, Pramila Jayapal, and Shri Thanedar—have all been re-elected, each representing different districts across the U.S. Notably, Thanedar won his second term in Michigan, while Krishnamoorthi achieved his fifth consecutive term in Illinois. In Arizona, Democrat Amish Shah is leading in a close race, potentially increasing the total number of Indian Americans in Congress. This historic achievement reflects the growing influence of Indian Americans in U.S. politics.
