Major Irregularities Found at Ahmedabad School, DEO Recommends State Takeover

In Ahmedabad, an investigation set up by the Ahmedabad District Education Office (DEO) has uncovered serious operational irregularities at the Seventh Day Adventist High School in Maninagar. The probe was initiated following a tragic incident involving a Class 8 student fatally stabbing a Class 10 student, prompting scrutiny of the school’s credentials under the Right to Education Act.

The committee’s report revealed that the school has been operating on premises leased from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation since 2003, yet no formal approval was secured for relocating or expanding its sections. While recognition for Classes 1–6 was originally granted in the 1980s for a different site, the current campus is running Classes 1–12 without valid sanction.
According to DEO R.M. Chaudhary, the findings have been forwarded to the state education department, and urgent action is recommended. The report advises that the government should either step in and take over the school’s administration or transfer its management to another trust. This step is seen as necessary both to bring the institution in line with statutory requirements and to safeguard the welfare of the students enrolled there.
The case highlights broader concerns about school governance, particularly around expansion without formal recognition, leasing of premises without proper approvals, and oversight by local authorities. For parents, educators and regulators alike, the incident underscores the importance of ensuring that schools comply with all legal and educational norms — not just for academic quality, but for the safety and rights of students.
As the state education department evaluates the next steps, the focus will be on how quickly corrective management can be put in place, and how the school’s operations will be regularised going forward.
