This initiative is organised by the Ministry of Education, in partnership with Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and NITI Aayog, and seeks to engage students from classes VI to XII across India. The Buildathon was launched on 23 September 2025.
Under this scheme, more than 1.5 lakh schools and over one crore students are expected to participate, presenting ideas and prototypes addressing pressing societal challenges, under four guiding themes: Atmanirbhar Bharat, Swadeshi, Vocal for Local, and Samriddhi. The live event is set for October 13, with results scheduled to be announced in December 2025.
As brand ambassador, Shukla has already called upon students to join the Buildathon, urging them to “think innovatively” and develop prototypes that can make a difference in the country’s roadmap toward Viksit Bharat 2047.
Shubhanshu Shukla, born in 1985, is a Group Captain in the IAF, a test pilot with over 2,000 flight hours, and in 2025 became the first ISRO astronaut to reach the International Space Station (ISS). His scientific background and public profile lend significant weight to his role in motivating India’s future innovators.
