Facing off against Poland’s Julia Szeremeta—the Olympic silver medallist—Lamboria put on a masterful display. Though she trailed after the first round, she adjusted her strategy, using her reach, counter-punches, and composure to dominate the second and third rounds, ultimately winning 4-1 on the scorecards.
This victory is especially significant as it follows her earlier disappointment of an early exit at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Lamboria has credited consistent work—both technical and mental—for her resurgence and ultimate world title.
Her win contributed to India’s best-ever performance by the women’s boxing contingent at a World Championships held abroad. Along with Lamboria’s gold, Minakshi Hooda also won gold (in the 48kg category), Nupur Sheoran secured a silver in the +80kg class, and Pooja Rani took home a bronze.
Being the ninth Indian woman to win a world championship title, Lamboria joins an elite list which includes legends like Mary Kom, Nikhat Zareen, Sarita Devi, and Lovlina Borgohain.
With this triumph, she has not only written her name in boxing history but also energized India’s women’s boxing scene, offering inspiration to aspiring athletes across the country.
