Sixteen Border Security Force (BSF) personnel received the Medal for Gallantry for demonstrating “conspicuous bravery” and “unmatched valour” while operating along India’s western borders during the mission. This announcement was part of a broader tribute, with over 1,090 personnel across police, fire services, home guards, civil defence, and correctional services earning recognitions from the central Home Ministry.
In a historic first, seven senior officers—four from the Indian Air Force, two from the Army, and one from the Navy—were honored with the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal, the highest wartime distinguished service decoration and the wartime equivalent of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal. Notably, this marks the first-ever conferment of the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal to IAF officers.
Additionally, the Indian Air Force’s fighter pilots who played pivotal roles in Operation Sindoor were particularly recognized. Nine pilots received the Vir Chakra, honoring their exceptional courage during combat, while 26 IAF officers and airmen were awarded the Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) for their operational and air defence excellence.
These recognitions highlight the tactical brilliance and sacrifice exhibited during Operation Sindoor, reflecting the Indian military’s unwavering commitment to national security and responsiveness in the face of adversity.
