Israeli Army Accused of Seizing Donkeys from Gaza in Worsening Humanitarian Crisis

Israeli forces are reportedly confiscating hundreds of donkeys from Gaza and relocating them to Belgium and France. According to Israeli media outlet Kan, the operation was carried out in coordination with Israeli groups and European institutions, including organizations in France and Belgium, under the guise of a “veterinary rescue” mission.
Some of these donkeys were sent to the ‘Starting Over Sanctuary’ in Israel, run by Sharon Cohen. From there, at least 58 animals have already been flown to Europe—with shipments landing in Liège, Belgium, before being distributed to shelters.
Critics argue that this is more than animal welfare—it’s a calculated move to deepen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Donkeys serve as vital transportation for food, water, and medical aid in a region where infrastructure has collapsed. Taking them away further impedes relief efforts .
