In a significant push to promote sports culture and fitness among students, the Gujarat government has announced the distribution of 34,483 sports kits to government and grant-in-aid schools across the state. These kits, valued at a total of ₹29.45 crore, will be provided under the state’s sports development programme for the academic year 2024-25.

The initiative was launched by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who emphasized the importance of physical activity in shaping students’ overall development. “A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Our aim is to ensure that every child in Gujarat gets the opportunity to engage in sports,” he said during the announcement.

Each sports kit includes essential equipment for popular games like cricket, volleyball, football, kabaddi, kho-kho, badminton, and athletics. The kits are designed to cater to the diverse sporting interests of students from primary to higher secondary levels.

The distribution will benefit students in both urban and rural areas, helping bridge the gap in access to quality sports resources. Schools will receive the kits based on the number of students enrolled and the existing sports infrastructure.

Officials from the state’s Youth Services and Cultural Activities Department noted that the kits are not only aimed at encouraging recreational sports but also at identifying and nurturing young talent for state and national-level competitions.

This move comes as part of the government’s broader commitment to fostering a “Fit Gujarat”, aligning with national campaigns like Khelo India. It also supports the new education policy’s focus on holistic learning, which includes co-curricular activities and physical education as key components of student development.

With this initiative, Gujarat takes a strong step toward integrating sports into mainstream education and inspiring the next generation of athletes.
