Key acquisitions include:

  • Naval enhancements: Indigenous moored mines, Mine Counter Measure Vessels (MCMVs), Super Rapid Gun Mounts, and Submersible Autonomous Vessels aimed at closing critical gaps in maritime mine clearance and protection of naval and merchant shipping.

  • Air defence upgrades: Three Army regiments of Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missiles (QRSAM), with a range up to 30 km, and additional Surface-to-Air Missile systems.

  • Strategic intelligence: Procurement of three ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition & Reconnaissance) spy aircraft fitted with DRDO-made sensors, plus underwater autonomous surveillance vessels.

  • Armoured recovery & EW systems: New Armoured Recovery Vehicles for logistics support and Electronic Warfare systems to boost battlefield situational awareness.

  • Integrated logistics: A tri-service Common Inventory Management System to optimize supply chain operations across Army, Navy, and Air Force.

This procurement marks the first major DAC action post-Operation Sindoor and aligns with India’s “Make in India” push, emphasizing self-reliance and boosting defence exports—already rising to ₹24,000 crore in FY24–25, with domestic defence production reaching ₹1.46 lakh crore.

Naval mine countermeasures were notably urgent, as the Navy currently lacks operational minesweeping vessels. The approved projects will take nearly a decade to deliver but represent a structural advancement in India’s maritime defence.

Overall, this milestone demonstrates India’s commitment to modernizing its military, balancing swift operational readiness with long-term indigenous manufacturing capabilities—further solidifying its position as a growing global defence exporter.
