Kevadiya, July 3, 2025 – The Sardar Patel Zoological Park at the Statue of Unity Jungle Safari in Ekta Nagar (Kevadiya) has welcomed three new inhabitants: an adult male and two adult female African chimpanzees. These primates were flown in from Capital Zoo Wildlife Park in Abu Dhabi on 23 February 2025, and kept under observation before being introduced to the public on World Rainforest Day (22 June 2025).

The specially designed enclosure replicates a lush African rainforest habitat, complete with natural branches, ropes, wooden platforms, and dense vegetation to encourage climbing, play, and social interaction. Initially quarantined to allow adjustment to the Indian climate, zoo officials report that the chimpanzees have acclimated well and now comfortably explore their new environment.

Visitors can now view the chimpanzees through reinforced glass walls, offering safe and educational wildlife encounters. Officials highlighted that the trio—including a male and two females—have formed harmonious bonds within their locale and are thriving in the thoughtfully crafted habitat.

The launch aligns with the Park’s ongoing mission to enhance biodiversity and eco-tourism. Spanning 375 acres, the zoo features fauna from across the globe, including big cats, deer, birds in the world’s largest geodesic dome aviary, and now, these charismatic new residents.

The addition of the chimpanzees significantly enriches the safari’s offerings and supports its educational objectives, spotlighting conservation and habitat awareness. The event has already drawn families, school groups, and wildlife enthusiasts eager to observe primate behavior up-close in a naturally inspired setting.
