As part of this directive, the RBI has advised banks to configure or calibrate 10% of ATMs to dispense ₹100 banknotes exclusively. This measure is in line with the RBI’s Clean Note Policy and seeks to meet the genuine requirements of the public for ₹100 denomination banknotes.
Regarding ₹200 notes, the RBI has instructed banks to recalibrate ATMs to facilitate the dispensing of this denomination. However, the process of recalibrating ATMs to accommodate ₹200 notes may take up to three months, as it involves significant logistical efforts.
These steps are part of the RBI’s broader strategy to enhance the circulation of lower denomination notes, thereby facilitating smoother transactions for the public.
