On April 4, 2025, the Karnataka High Court emphasized the necessity of implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to provide equal treatment for all citizens, particularly women.The court observed that despite constitutional guarantees of equality, women continue to face unequal treatment due to religion-based personal laws.Highlighting disparities in inheritance rights under Hindu and Muslim personal laws, the bench underscored that a UCC would help achieve the objectives of Article 14 of the Indian Constitution, which ensures equality before the law.
