Karnataka High Court Advocates for Uniform Civil Code to Ensure Equality

Share

On April 4, 2025, the Karnataka High Court emphasized the necessity of implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to provide equal treatment for all citizens, particularly women. The court observed that despite constitutional guarantees of equality, women continue to face unequal treatment due to religion-based personal laws. Highlighting disparities in inheritance rights under Hindu and Muslim personal laws, the bench underscored that a UCC would help achieve the objectives of Article 14 of the Indian Constitution, which ensures equality before the law.
