Centre Approves Chandrayaan-5 Mission, Confirms ISRO Chief Narayanan

The Government of India has greenlit the Chandrayaan-5 mission as part of its long-term vision to land an Indian astronaut on the Moon by 2040. ISRO Chairman V Narayanan, speaking at a felicitation event in Chennai, revealed that Chandrayaan-4 is set to land and collect lunar samples, while Chandrayaan-5 will demonstrate a high-capacity lander crucial for future missions. The mission will be executed in partnership with Japan.

India has already achieved three successful lunar missions, with Chandrayaan-3 marking a historic soft landing on the Moon’s South Pole. In addition, ISRO is advancing towards its ambitious goal of establishing the “Bharatiya Antriksh Station” by 2035. Narayanan also highlighted ISRO’s achievements in satellite launches, with India having launched 433 satellites, including those for 34 foreign nations.

The ISRO chief also spoke about the upcoming Kulasekarapattinam spaceport, which will facilitate polar satellite launches and enhance India’s commercial satellite capabilities.
