IPL Banned from Tobacco and Alcohol Ads

Share

The Indian Premier League (IPL), one of the world’s most popular cricket tournaments, will no longer feature advertisements for tobacco and alcohol. The Union Health Ministry has strictly banned all such promotions, including indirect or “surrogate” ads, where brands use other products like soda or music CDs to promote tobacco or alcohol.

The ministry has also urged cricketers to act as role models for young fans and avoid endorsing harmful products. This step aims to protect public health, especially young viewers who may be influenced by such advertisements.

Tobacco and alcohol can cause serious health problems, including cancer and heart disease. By removing these ads from the IPL, the government hopes to encourage healthier habits among fans.

This decision follows similar bans in other sports globally, where governments aim to reduce the influence of harmful substances. Now, IPL matches will focus more on the game itself, setting a positive example for young cricket lovers.
