Oscars 2025: “Laapataa Ladies” No Longer in the Running

Laapataa Ladies, also promoted as Lost Ladies for the Oscars, has failed to make it to the 2025 Academy Awards shortlist. Directed by Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan’s ex-wife, the film marked her return as a director after more than a decade. This film, which had gained significant attention as India’s official entry for the Oscars, was a heartfelt project that garnered love from audiences worldwide. However, despite the widespread support, it did not advance in the race for an Academy nomination.
The film’s makers, Aamir Khan Productions, expressed disappointment but also gratitude for the recognition they had received. The Oscars 2025 nominations will be announced on January 17, with voting scheduled from January 8 to January 12. The 97th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood. While Laapataa Ladies will not be part of the Oscars race this year, its journey has been an important chapter in the global celebration of Indian cinema.
