Job Overview:
We seek a meticulous and enthusiastic Sub Editor to join our team for a children’s newspaper and magazine. The ideal candidate will assist in ensuring the accuracy, clarity, and quality of our content. This role requires excellent editorial skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for creating engaging and educational content for children aged 6-12. The Sub Editor will work closely with the editorial team to
refine and polish content before publication.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Editing:
- Review and edit articles, stories, puzzles, games, and educational features for clarity, grammar, and accuracy.
- Ensure all content is age-appropriate and adheres to the publication’s editorial standards.
- Correct spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors while maintaining the original voice and tone of the content.
Fact-Checking:
- Verify facts, statistics, and sources to ensure the reliability and credibility of the content.
- Cross-check information with reliable sources and provide necessary corrections.
Consistency and Quality Control:
- Maintain consistency in style, formatting, and tone across all content.
- Ensure that all content aligns with the publication’s guidelines and branding.
- Conduct final checks to ensure high-quality output before publication.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with writers, illustrators, designers, and other members of the editorial team to enhance content quality.
- Provide constructive feedback to contributors to help them improve their work.
- Assist in coordinating the workflow to meet publication deadlines.
Reader Engagement:
- Assist in developing interactive features such as reader submissions, contests, and polls.
- Monitor reader feedback and suggest improvements to content based on audience response.
Research and Trends:
- Stay updated with trends in children’s media, literature, and education.
- Assist in researching topics to support content development and innovation.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in editorial roles, preferably in a print/electronic/digital media.
- Experience in editing content for children is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong editing and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Understanding of child development and age-appropriate content.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Creative mindset with a passion for storytelling.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in content management systems (CMS) and digital publishing tools.
- Familiarity with design software such as Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of SEO and digital marketing principles is beneficial.
- Language proficiency- English, Hindi, Gujarat.
