In a significant architectural and administrative milestone, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) will soon relocate from its longstanding premises in the historic South Block to a newly constructed Executive Enclave, just a few hundred meters away, as part of the ambitious Central Vista redevelopment project.

This strategic move, expected to take place in September 2025, aims to resolve chronic space constraints and modernize working conditions that until now were housed in cramped, poorly ventilated colonial-era buildings. The Executive Enclave will not only accommodate the PMO but will also house the Cabinet Secretariat, the National Security Council Secretariat, and include a state-of-the-art conference facility positioned closer to the Prime Minister’s residence.
The vacated North and South Blocks, once the nerve center of India’s administrative machinery, will be repurposed as a public museum titled Yuge Yugeen Bharat Sangrahalaya. The project is being developed in collaboration with the National Museum and France Museums Development, symbolizing a transition from colonial legacy to a celebration of India’s enduring cultural heritage.
This transition represents more than just an infrastructural upgrade: it underscores New Delhi’s commitment to efficient governance architecture that resonates with India’s evolving global image. As this chapter closes on the colonial-era secretariats, India embarks on a new era of modern, responsive administration set within the rejuvenated heart of its government.
